If you’re looking to buy or sell a home in Conshohocken, you need a real estate agent in Conshohocken, PA. Dexter B. Adriaanse of Realty One Group Restore is based in Conshohocken and stands ready to serve your real estate needs.
Conshohocken is thriving suburb in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, measuring approximately one square mile on the east bank of the Schuylkill River, 13 miles northwest of Philadelphia. “Conshy”, as it is known to residents, was incorporated in 1850, but it’s colorful history had it’s beginningd as a Native American territory until 1684, when William Penn purchased the land from Tammany, chief of the lenni Lenape Nation.
Conshohocken’s ideal location along the Schuylkill River near a newly constructed canal and a railway system provided the transportation and power necessary for it to prosper. An abundance of local iron ore, marble, and limestone, along with the proximity of commercial markets in Philadelphia, provided the natural elements for the growth of industry.
With the establishment of the first mills in the area, Conshohocken was transformed from a pioneer settlement to a booming industrial community. The growth of local industry brought together wealthy Quaker entrepreneurs and immigrant laborers from Ireland, Poland, Italy, and other Eauropean countries. This wealth and diversity shaped the commercial, residential, civic, and religious community.
Over the last 150 years, Conshohocken has evolved dramatically. There are now large professional office buildings where rolling hills and textile mills once stood along Washington Street. The elaborate train stations are gone, and th elower Fayette Street commercial area below First Avenue has been demolished to make way for parking lots and more profesional office buildings. Along the avenues of Fayette Street, mansions and grand homes that belonged to Conshohocken’s industrialists were replaced with gas stations, convenience stores, banks, and the post office.
After all these years and chance in Conshohocken, and the influx of a newer and younger crowd, long time residents still share a passion for their hometown. The citizens are proud of their heritage- of the shared past that has brought them together and gives their community identity and purpose. In fact, many families have lived here for several generations. The great grandchildren of Coshohocken’s founding father still live here today.
